MSD Digital 6+ Ignition
When running cold plugs, like my NGK TR6's, it is essential to run an aftermarket ignition to prevent plug fouling. Also, when running the juice, it is important to have a strong spark to burn the exotic mixture of fuel.
So why did I choose the Digital 6+? MSD is the leader in ignitions, and is the only brand I would really consider. I know other companies make good ignitions, but MSD just stands out. The Digital 6+ offers more bang for the buck than all of their other ignitions. It cost me $280. For a super easy and clean install, I also got the wiring harness to go along with it.
Its useful features are dual rev-limiters (I am only using one) and the retard function. I pull a couple of degrees of retard when running the juice, just to be safe. Some people would say why not just buy a 6AL and retard box. Several reasons. That combo would cost about $280. It also is two separate boxes, taking up valuable space. They both use those damn resistor pills, while the Digital 6+ has built in dials. It also draws less current and produces more voltage than the 6AL. Need I say more?
This, along with the new coil, really improved my throttle response. From a seat of the pants perspective, I feel I got a few extra HP from it too. Some people w/ LT1's don't notice these gains nearly as much, but they are usually the 96-97 motors, which have a slightly stronger ignition from the factory.
